Carve the Back Braces—The back has a strong impact on the guitar's sound. Like the soundboard, the braces are carved to give the desired stiffness with the least weight.

In addition to the braces, you can see the mahogany center seam graft. Its grain runs perpendicular to the back. This combines with the stripe inlaid on the outside to create a strong, plywood-like joint.
